Edward Cowern was District Manager for Baldor Electric Company in New England for more than 20 years. A motor expert and well-known technical writer, Mr. Cowern has published papers in journals such as Machine Design, Design News, Power Transmission Design, Power Engineering, and Plant Services and Control Engineering. His technical papers have been used by motor personnel throughout the country, and are included with this course. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, a professional engineer, and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Ned Paschke, PE, DEE, is a program director and professor of practice at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in analysis and improvement of water and wastewater systems and facilities. Before joining the UW-Madison, he was director of engineering for the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District and a hydraulic engineering consultant for national and international engineering firms.
Michael Volk, PE is President of Volk and Associates, Inc., in Oakland, California. Mr. Volk’s experience includes more than 30 years specializing in pumps and pump systems. His service includes pump evaluations, consulting, field-testing, training, pump market research, and serving as an expert witness for pump litigation. Mr. Volk has also started and managed a grass-roots facility to repair industrial pumps of all types. He was responsible for engineering and marketing activities with the $30 million vertical pump division of a major pump manufacturer. Mr. Volk has written numerous professional papers on pumps and is the author of the book, “Pump Characteristics and Applications,” 3rd edition, published by CRC Press, included with this course.
