Robert Rowlands
Credentials: PhD
Position title: faculty
Address:
Madison, Wisconsin
His present efforts include using infrared thermography (thermoelastic stress analysis), Doppler interferometry, microscopy and moire for stress and fracture analysis of composite structures, fiber-reinforced concrete, bolted joints, metal plate connectors in wood structures, photomechanics and cellulosic composites. Rowlands' interest in structural mechanics is demonstrated by the six years he served as director of the Wisconsin Structures and Materials Testing Laboratory. Prior to joining UW-Madison in 1975, he had eight years of research and development experience in experimental mechanics, stress analysis and composites at IIT Research Institute in Chicago. Professor Rowlands is interested in the following subjects and their applications:
- modern materials
- experimental, structural, and hybrid mechanics
- micromechanics
- fatigue, and
- fracture.
