Building Enclosure Commissioning Process Provider (BECxP)
- Minimum score: 60 on Part 1 and 80 on Part 2
- Best suited for professionals involved in commissioning delivery and coordination
Accredited Commissioning Authority + Building Enclosure (CxA+BE)
- Minimum score: 80 on Part 1 and 60 on Part 2
- Best suited for those serving in or moving into a commissioning authority role
Earn Both Certifications
- Minimum score: 80 on both Part 1 and Part 2
- Demonstrates both technical knowledge and leadership capability
- Expands flexibility across commissioning roles and responsibilities

About the Certificate

Do I need prior commissioning experience?
No. The certification focuses on knowledge and exam performance, not prior project experience.
What is the difference between BECxP and CxA+BE?
BECxP focuses on commissioning process knowledge and technical understanding of enclosure systems. CxA+BE emphasizes leadership and the ability to lead commissioning efforts.
Can I earn both certifications?
Yes. If you achieve a score of 80 or higher on both parts of the exam, you will earn both credentials.
How long is the certification valid?
All UW-Madison Commissioning certifications are valid for a period of five years. The purpose of expiration dates is to provide a process to verify that individuals holding UW–Madison Commissioning certifications remain actively engaged and knowledgeable about the current implementation and guidelines of the Commissioning Process.
How do I renew my certification?
Renewal emails and/or letters will be sent during January or early February for any individual whose certificate expires during that calendar year.
The renewal process requires 4 steps. These are shown on the renewal email or letter and summarized below:
- Log into the renewal website shown on the email/letter
- Pay the renewal fee (if required – see fee schedule)
- Update your contact information and complete the online survey
- Complete the online recertification educational quiz (17-20 multiple-choice questions)
After these steps are complete, a new certificate with the updated expiration date will be sent to the updated email address indicated.
