Online By Design

Designed for Engineers. Powered by Innovation.

At the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s College of Engineering, our Online Graduate Programs are designed for online: we connect you with expert faculty, engineers from other companies, new technology, and critical content, so you can achieve your goals and make a difference.

Learner-Centered Approach

Our online engineering programs are built for you, a working professional who can learn from anywhere in the world. Every decision, from what you learn to how we teach, is rooted in research-based best practices. We foster a welcoming and inclusive environment, cultivate a culture of innovation, and leverage leading research, industry experience, and strong support. Our courses are organized, clear, consistent, and thoughtfully designed to maximize your investment and tailor your education to meet your specific goals.

“I can’t speak more highly about the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the level of dedication they put into their students and programs. I look forward to applying this degree to my current and future roles to best support and advance my company.” – Robert D’Alessandro, Engineering Management MS

Industry Relevance

Our online engineering programs provide knowledge and skills you can apply right away. We integrate current trends, emerging technologies, work-based and real-world examples. You’ll work with real data, case studies, models, and simulations. You’ll utilize industry-standard tools like Python, Tableau, and Simulink. For example, our Engineering Data Analytics program provides remote access to Euler, our campus supercomputer, enabling you to apply concepts immediately. One student transformed a 30-day work task into a 24-hour turnaround, demonstrating the powerful, tangible results our programs deliver.

“The most valuable part of the program was being able to apply what I learned in the classroom immediately to my work.” – Elizabeth Bitante, Engineering Data Analytics MEng

Our programs focus on real-world projects using online collaboration tools, so you can lead innovation and drive organizational transformation. Our online engineering programs embody the Wisconsin Idea: apply learning to solve our world’s grand challenges.

In ISyE 521 Machine Learning in Action, student Charlie Coogan showcases his analysis of machine learning predictions, highlighting the practical, data-driven insights gained in our programs, that can be applied on-the-job the very next day.

Innovative Methods

Our online engineering programs integrate flexibility with important real-time interaction. We strategically combine activities you can complete on your own time—interactive modules, practice exercises, and multimedia resources—with highly focused live online sessions. These live online sessions go beyond traditional lectures, so you can learn deeply and build relationships by working with technical experts, guest speakers, and classmates. This design empowers you to translate theory into practice and to critically think, evaluate, and problem-solve.

In EPD619 Fostering and Leading Innovation, instructor Travis Aion integrates collaborative tools to empower learners to actively engage, share ideas, and problem-solve together, no matter where they are in the world.

Engaging Experience

Our online engineering programs foster valuable learning through direct interaction with expert faculty, industry leaders, and your peers. Our online design ensures consistent instructor presence and personalized feedback, crucial for building connection and achieving deep conceptual mastery. We utilize a comprehensive range of assessment methods to both evaluate your learning and continually enhance our teaching. Instructors deliver detailed, timely, and varied feedback via text, audio, and video. Recognizing the unique demands of working professionals, our faculty’s commitment extends beyond traditional office hours, offering flexible web conferences, one-on-one consultations, and just-in-time videos to provide individualized support whenever and wherever you need it.

[The most valuable part of the program was] “the collaborative learning experience where I was able to share and gain knowledge on manufacturing systems engineering from my professors and peers. A unique, educational opportunity to gain exposure to new concepts and cutting-edge technologies from individuals who come from varying industries and working backgrounds.” – Jasleen Randhawa, Manufacturing Systems Engineering MS

Fully Supported Ecosystem

We deliver a truly seamless experience from start to finish. From when you enroll to when you graduate, you are fully supported in your classes by expert faculty, along with a dedicated team of learning designers, educational technologists, media production specialists, quality assurance professionals, and IT support.
