Module 1: 5S Overview

Introduction to 5S is the first in a series of seven courses that explores the entire 5S process, including implementation. 

In this module, you will be introduced to the foundations of the 5S process and Lean concepts. Learn why 5S is important for supporting continuous improvement and how to be an advocate for the 5S Visual Workplace at your organization.

Module 2: Sort

Sort is the first step in the 5S process. This asynchronous, self-paced course outlines how to implement Sort, eliminating unneeded items from a workspace.

In this module, you will learn about the guidelines and specific steps of Sort, the first step in the 5S process. This step will help ensure you initiate the 5S process for maximum effectiveness of all other 5S steps.

Module 3: Set in Order

Set In Order is the third course in a series of seven courses that explores the entire 5S process, including implementation.

During this session you will learn how Set-In-Order techniques are core to simplifying and organizing work areas to ensure efficiency, standardization, and visual management. Along with tools to establish current state performance, key points include location and layout principles, motion economy, and signboards.

Module 4: Shine

Shine is the fourth in a series of seven courses that explores the entire 5S process, including implementation.

During this session you will learn how Shine improves safety, quality, and uptime within a work area. You will learn how to create and utilize assignment maps, checklist tools, schedules, and how checkpoints and inspection activities support safety, quality, and efficiency.

Module 5: Standardize

Standardization is the fifth in a series of seven courses that explores the entire 5S process, including implementation.

Standardization involves adhering to a set of daily standards and practices to eliminate clutter and disorder. Responsibility assignments, daily maintenance checks among other activities supporting the goals of Standardization are highlighted. You will learn how to create and utilize checklists, work methods, audits, and real time visual controls to achieve the goals of standardization.

Module 6: Sustain

Sustain is the sixth course in a series of seven courses that explores the entire 5S process, including implementation.

Sustain techniques promote and build discipline for an action-based improvement system that is shared across all business functions. Learn how to communicate expectations, shared purpose, structure, and a common language of applied techniques. Learners will develop a monthly audit for system to measure and provide feedback on levels of performance, supporting constancy of 5S purpose and progress.

Module 7: Implementation

Implementation is the final course in a series of seven courses that explores the entire 5S process, including implementation.

A strong 5S program is one that has been successfully implemented. This course covers important elements of implementation. Using information from this course, learners will be able create both an implementation plan as well as change management and communication.
