An asynchronous, self-paced online course on plastics recycling. We will discuss how plastics are recycled in practice, and which materials are typically recycled and why. An introduction to the main types of recycling (mechanical recycling and chemical recycling including pyrolysis) will be covered. Examples of downcycling and upcycling will be given, including efforts to reclaim ocean plastics and post-consumer textiles. Sustainable and biodegradable polymer chemistry will also be covered.
