Course Overview

Leadership turnover and delayed managerial development have made coaching and mentoring critical skills for technical leaders. This interactive course introduces the SLII® model, helping participants master goal-setting, diagnosing development levels, and applying tailored leadership strategies to meet employee needs. With practical exercises and real-world scenarios, attendees will gain actionable insights to confidently coach and mentor in dynamic technical environments.

Course features

The course is based on The SLII Experience® created by Dr. Ken Blanchard and other leaders at Blanchard®. Using the SLII® highly interactive approach, you will learn and practice the three skills of a situational leader: goal-setting (aligning on what needs to be done), diagnosis (collaboratively assessing an individual’s competence and commitment on a specific task or goal) and matching (using a variety of leadership approaches, comfortably, to provide individuals with what they need to complete tasks or achieve goals).

  • A contemporary look at what leaders need in today’s diverse, multi-generational workplace to be successful and effective

Goal Setting: The 1st Skill of a Situational Leader

  • Learn how to help others develop goals that are specific, motivating, attainable, relevant, and trackable (SMART Goals)

Diagnosis: The 2nd Skill of a Situational Leader

  • Discover how to diagnose an individual’s development level to perform a given task or goal and provide the appropriate direction and support to achieve success
  • Learn how to use the four leadership styles (strategies)—each with a different combination of directive and supportive behaviors that provide just what the individual needs to perform in a given situation

Matching: The 3rd Skill of a Situational Leader

  • Find out how using the appropriate leadership style in a given situation optimizes the employee’s development and saves you time
  • Practice how to match your leadership approach to individuals’ development levels
  • Demonstrate how to open up communication and involve others in setting goals and reaching agreements about the support and direction that you need to achieve personal and organizational goals
  • Learn how to manage development regression by staying in close touch with performance and development

Kimberly Kleiman-Lee

Kimberly Kleiman-Lee knows that humans are the most interesting part of work. Kimberly served General Electric for 20 years; with her final 7 years teaching and coaching at Crotonville (GE’s corporate university.) Her team led the company’s Culture and Leadership Learning & Development strategy and solutions for 330,000 employees. Her honest, intuitional, and methodical approach to individual and team development earned her the respect of leaders throughout GE. In addition to serving her team, her individual work focused GE’s top 5000 leaders - teaching, coaching, provoking, and inspiring change. She founded KKL & Co. in 2017 and her practice includes executive coaching, leadership workshops, and business strategy. Her services engage the ‘Whole Human’ often with humor, rarely with PowerPoint. Kimberly believes that the best way to learn about the world is to be out in it.

Kimberly obtained her BA from the University of Wisconsin Madison and her Masters in Adult Education and Leadership Studies from Loyola University Chicago. She is a hopeful guitarist, triathlete, and a certified Black Belt (Six Sigma kind).
